Local authorities are under enormous pressure to deliver public services, housing and infrastructure. Budgets are stretched and resources, particularly in relation to staffing, are strained. The challenge for planning departments is acute.

 

This situation compromises local authorities’ capacity to process planning applications, inevitably affecting the progress of developments, including those which could deliver much needed homes or local economic activity and jobs.

 

It was against this background that we saw an opportunity to establish Local Planners, a planning advisory service with a difference. Focused solely on local authorities, we assist planning departments in assessing applications and speeding up the decision-making process.

 

Local Planners is entirely focused on what the local authority, its members and officers, want to see happen in their area, and because we exclusively work for local authorities, we are without conflicts of interest.

 

This differentiates us from other planning consultancies who typically work for the developer community, and will therefore likely be conflicted (or seen to be conflicted) if assisting local authorities.
